On this episode we interview artist and Community Arts Coordinator Kelly Schrader. Artist Bio:

Kelly Schrader was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Since obtaining a BA in Art History and a BFA in Studio Art Practices from Virginia Tech, Schrader has had a fruitful and varied career in visual arts. From collaborating with museums, galleries, and nonprofits across the east coast and Midwest on community and educational programs, to creating engaging public murals and mentoring student artists, their work has always had a focus on community interaction and creating accessible art. In addition to their artistic practice, Schrader has been working in nonprofit arts administration for over 8 years, and currently serves as Community Arts Coordinator for the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County. Since moving to Raleigh in 2020, Schrader has founded the Pop-Swap event series, spent time volunteering for numerous local organizations, and completed public murals across the Triangle, among other projects.

Schrader is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on public art and community work. Whether they’re creating murals, organizing events, or working on conceptual projects, Schrader prioritizes accessibility and interaction within their practice. Schrader believes that finding creative opportunities for public engagement can serve as a framework for building stronger communities.
